Is a canister filter enough filtratation?

I have recently started my first saltwater fish only tank. I didn't know how much filtration was enough. Origionally I just had a canister filter. I later talked to a marine biologist that keeps the saltwater fish at my local hospital. He told me that I needed to invest in some biowheels (They can run off of your canister filter). I have a 46 gallon tank with a magnum 350 canister filter and two biowheels. This is sufficient filtration for my tank. Also, when purchasing canister filters, they can get expensive so don't forget about places like ebay or amazon! If you do get a canister filter, you can always purchase parts from drsfosterandsmith.com. I found this website extremely helpful along my journey of setting up my tank. Another note: double your filtration from the gallons of tank you have. (55 gallon tank? = probably around 100 gal filter). Just remember, there is never too much filtration! Don't forget those water changes! Attempt them every two weeks or so with the gravel cleaner you can find at your local wal mart. Empty about 25-50% of the water and replace that water with saltwater depending on your hydrometer readings. Clean your canister filter regularly. Once a month minimal! All these processes should keep your tank clean and filtered properly.
